What is Indian Head Massage?

Indian Head Massage also known as Champissage, is a massage that involves the head, neck, shoulders and upper back. This practise first started in Pakistan and India where families passed it down from generation to generation. It was used to address stress levels, improve overall health, and promote hair growth.

Indian head massage combines techniques to include various massage strokes and acupressure points. Treatment includes kneading and probing of the neck and shoulder areas. The scalp is then massaged, using squeezing, tapping, rubbing or prodding motions.

Facial pressure points are manipulated to relieve sinus pressure, increase alertness and stimulate circulation. A patient's ears may then be pressed and tugged, and their hair tousled.

Conditions IHM helps treat

Indian head massage can increase mental clarity and rejuvenate the person receiving the massage. Although treatments include massage of the shoulders and neck, head massage and face massage make up the main parts of the treatment.

IHM increases blood flow, lymphatic flow and relaxes muscle and nerve fibres along with decreasing inflammation in the tissues. This massage also stimulates the release of beta-endorphins and seratonin from the brain. And the list goes on and on for the benefits of IHM.

IHM can restore joint movement and mobility, promote hair growth and relieve eye strain, tinnutis, sinus problems, insomnia, and fibrous adhesions in the neck and shoulders. IHM can also substantially reduce neck and shoulder restriction pain. This treatment also releaves stress and tension, enhances concentration and clear thinking and creates a feeling of mental calmness and physical well-being.
